As of March 2, 2020
Where can I find information and resources regarding the coronavirus?
Our website has information from the Oregon Health Authority and Washington County Health. You can find it here: www.gastonk12.org
What are things I can do to prevent getting the virus?
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 second
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing
- Avoid contact with people who are sick
- Stay home while you are sick and avoid close contact with others
What steps/precautions are being taken to keep GSD facilities clean?
At our Elementary and Jr/Sr High Schools, we have custodians in each of our buildings day and night who are responsible for the overall care and upkeep of the school and grounds. These services include cleaning, sanitizing, vacuuming, and mopping. Our schools also have facility managers who provide additional support cleaning and sanitizing the spaces that are used in our buildings.
Should I keep my student home?
You do not need to keep your child(ren) at home if they are healthy. Please do keep your child(ren) home if they have a cough and a fever of 100 or higher. We will contact you to come get your child if we feel your child is not feeling well while at school. If someone living in your home is ill and you believe your child(ren) has/have been exposed, please keep them home. If a student is sick, the school will work with parents to provide work that can be done at home.
Will my student know what to do at school to prevent getting sick?
Staff will provide ongoing lessons on what to do to prevent getting sick. Example: Handwashing Video for children. Teachers will lead students in regular classroom practices such as cleaning desks, washing hands, etc. Schools and classrooms will have Kleenex, cleaning and disinfecting supplies, as well as hand sanitizer.
Will school/activities/events be cancelled because of coronavirus?
School will continue as scheduled unless the circumstances surrounding a confirmed/presumptive case of coronavirus involving a student, staff member, or someone who has spent significant time in our building causes reason for a closure. We will follow regular school closure procedures if school is cancelled. We highly encourage all families to make sure your school building has your most updated emergency contact information. Changes and closures will be sent via FlashAlert and AlertNow call notifications.
